Privacy Policy

Last updated: 2 August 2026

Safio (“we”, “the app”) is a personal safety application. This policy explains what data we collect, why we collect it, and the choices you have. By creating an account you agree to this policy.

Information we collect

  • Account data — name, phone number, email address, and your PIN/password (stored only in hashed form by our authentication provider).
  • Precise location — collected when you trigger an SOS alert, share live location with a trusted contact or group, add a safety marker, or enable background tracking. Background collection only runs while you have explicitly turned it on.
  • Emergency contacts — the names and phone numbers you choose to add. We do not upload your device address book.
  • Camera, microphone and sensors — used for hidden-camera detection (camera and magnetometer) and, if you enable it, silent photo or audio capture during an SOS. These are only accessed while the corresponding feature is running.
  • Device and diagnostic data — device model, app version, and error logs used to keep the service reliable.
  • Content you submit — complaints, community reports, messages, and safety markers.

How we use your information

  • Deliver SOS alerts, with your location, to your chosen contacts and nearby users.
  • Show safety markers, community reports, and nearby police stations on the map.
  • Operate device tracking tags and the “find my phone” feature.
  • Authenticate you and secure your account.
  • Diagnose crashes and improve the app.

We do not sell your personal data, and we do not use your location for advertising.

Sharing

Your data is shared only with: (a) the emergency contacts, groups, or nearby users you trigger an alert to; (b) authorised administrators of the Safio service for handling complaints and emergency response; and (c) infrastructure providers who host the database, authentication, and map tiles on our behalf. We may disclose data where required by law.

Storage and security

Data is stored on managed cloud infrastructure with encryption in transit. Access is restricted by row-level security rules so users can normally only read their own records. Direct messages are additionally end-to-end encrypted between devices.

Retention

Account and safety records are kept while your account is active. Background location points are retained only as long as needed to power live sharing and recent-history views. When you delete your account, your personal records are deleted or anonymised.

Your choices and rights

  • Revoke location, camera, microphone, or notification permissions at any time in your device settings.
  • Turn background tracking off from inside the app’s Locate settings.
  • Request a copy of, correction of, or deletion of your data by contacting us.
  • Delete your account, which removes your profile, contacts, and safety records.

Children

Safio is not directed at children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, contact us and we will remove it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy. Material changes will be announced inside the app, and the “last updated” date above will change.
